Christopher Pound, ING's Heritage expert has been assessing the historical significance of the Railway siding which is located between the Harbour Bridge and the Railway Station.
ING own the land but are currently discussing the future use of the land with Hayle Harbour Trust. John Bennett, a Harbour Trustee joined the walk and was keen to look at the entrance to the Station which was closed on health and Safety grounds by Railtrack.
Chris and John were able to view the historic sand track which was used as an escape track for goods vehicles using the steep rail link down to the Port.
Chris hopes to undertake a heritage workshop in Hayle for anyone interested in discussing the heritage of the harbour in particular.
Local historian Brian Sullivan helped explain some of the historical points of interest during the walk.
