Final plans for Phase 1 of the Hayle Harbour Regeneration – South Quay are being finalised prior to submission.
It is expected that the final plans will now be submitted in early December, after a number of revisions prompted by the lengthy ING Consultation Programme have been included.
The Company was determined to discuss the changes with as many people as possible and demonstrate that feedback has been incorporated into the final plans.
The reaction to the plans and the news that the Harbour regeneration programme could commence next year has been overwhelmingly positive.
ING stated at the Public Consultation at the historic White Hart Hotel* that work on both North Quay and South Quay could commence in 2011.
Many people commented that after 30 years of talking and so many false starts it was excellent news.
The Company will submit plans for South Quay which will feature less residential properties near the tip itself and much more open space.
This will leave a large area of the tip available for public use. As with all the open space on South Quay it will be fully infrastructured and with the harbour walls and quayside restored to a high quality.
It means that the number of houses has been reduced significantly.
Plans for a food store, a new digital cinema and social enterprise hub, A high quality restaurant and a modern footbridge from South Quay to Penpol Terrace were presented at the Consultation and will be included in the final submission.
* Traditionally the White Hart Hotel was Harvey's preferred location for major Harbour announcements.
