Plans to commence the regeneration of Hayle Harbour with the redevelopment of South Quay were presented at a public exhibition at the White Hart Hotel.
Hundreds of residents attended over the three days. Members of the Hayle Harbour redevelopment team were on hand to answer questions on all aspects of the scheme, as well as assisting with wider harbour questions.
Residents were asked to complete a 2 part response form which included a secret ballot of views of the plans. The ballot simply asked if having seen the exhibition the respondent was: in Favour, Not in favour or undecided.
A comment section was also included in the form for feedback and all respondents were asked if family or friends might be interested in the job opportunities the scheme offers.
A padlocked electoral ballot box, as used at General Elections was loaned by Cornwall County Council for the Hayle Harbour ballot.
After three days the ballot box was sealed by the last resident to attend the consultation Mrs Lesley Nowman of Phillack – she signed the seal and the Ballot Box was delivered to Devon and Cornwall Constabulary who are storing the box until the ballot box is collected by Cornwall Council.
The remaining unused ballot forms were destroyed by Mrs Nowman and have now been recycled.
Details regarding the opening of the ballot box will be announced shortly. The ballot box seal will be broken and the count will take place in front of an independent observer who will be announced shortly.
The public exhibition was advertised locally and featured over two weeks in the Cornishman. Local radio and Televison featured news of the consultation. The Hayle Harbour website featured news of the consultation and a 12ft banner was placed on Carnsew Road by the entrance to South Quay.
